2010 HT Outdoors Redfish Cup Championship
| Team Frontline Wins 2010 Cup | |
|
What an unbelievable weekend of competition in the final event of the 2010 HT Cup Tour. After a season filled with sunken boats, broken trolling motors and other challenges the Frontline Plus Pro team of Blake Champion and Mike Lambert put it all together and won the 2010 HT Cup Championship. Landing day 1’s big fish, a 9.99 pounder and a total weight of 18.42 this team was off and running, right? Wrong! A dead fish penalty of .50 would set their official weight at 17.92 and behind the team of Ray Malone and Ryan Sweezy’s 18.01. Could it be happening again, a livewell malfunction? A weak fish? What more could this team do? Nothing much, just follow up day 1’s official weight of 17.92 pounds with a day 2 weight of 18.60! Are you kidding? But wait. Another dead fish penalty for day 2 would have their official day 2 weight at, still an incredible, 18.10 pounds. This record setting 2 day official weight on certified scales of 36.02 left this team sitting pretty and exactly 18.01 pounds ahead of Ray Malone and Ryan Sweezy, the team that weighed in exactly 18.01 pounds on day 1, could they duplicate their day 1 weight and tie? Better yet, could they break it by just .01 and win the Cup? Champion and Lambert sat by and watched as team after team weighed and nudged up against but never past their 2 day, record setting total. Finally, it was Sweezy and Malone’s turn to weigh. They needed 18.01 to tie and 18.02 to win. The fish were measured and placed on the scale for weighing, the Pro Tournament Scales automatically and without any human contact locked in and the big screen tv’s showed their weight… 17.92 pounds, just .09 from what they needed and team Frontline was the winners. “Man this is exciting”, stated Sweezy. “We would of loved to win but man what a phenominal job Blake and Mike did, it couldn’t of happened to 2 nicer guys”, Malone told the anglers and crowd that had assembled. Friermood and Scherer made the tour aware of this record breaking day surprising even the winning team with the news their 2 day total was tops in any officially recorded event. See the attachments above for the final results proof positive that Venice, La. is the fishing captiol of the world and this weekend proved, again, it’s the best place in the world for food, fun, fellowship and giant redfish. What a tremendous weekend and year. We are thankful to Venice Marina’s Mike and Bill Butler, Chris Calloway and other staff members that made it an awesome 2 days of fishing. Also, we’d like to thank the anglers and their families that come out and compete week in, week out, thank you for being a part of our tour and lives. Jared Nixon and Neil Barbier bumped fish and took pictures and of course helped the event run smoothly by doing so, thank you guys. Until next year when the Invitational Tour kicks off right back here in Chalmette, La. with the 2011 Louisiana Crawfish Festival, we say, tight lines to all our anglers, good health and may God’s blessings be on each and everyone of you. Inside the Numbers: Did you know that eventual winners Champion/Lambert trailed the eventual 2nd place team of Sweezy/Malone by .09 after day 1 only to come back and win by exactly .09 after day 2. Did you know that Sweezy/Malone weighed in 18.01 on day 1, after Champion/Lambert weighed in on day 2 (36.02 total), Sweezy/Malone needed exactly 18.01 again on day 2. |

Z Man Joins Tailinreds as New Sponsor
Simply put, Z-Man is the fastest growing lure brand in the U.S. Our products virtually cover the waterfront - from trout stream to blue water. The Original ChatterBait® still dominates the bass scene, but these amazing baits are joined by a broad - over 500 SKUs - selection of soft plastics for virtually every fresh and saltwater situation including blue water trolling. A number of these baits are made from Z-Man’s proprietary ElaZtech®, a remarkable substance that is soft and pliable yet as much as 10X Tougher than other soft plastic baits. Word of ElaZtech® is spreading like wildfire as these baits gain traction along the tournament trail and are the subject of an aggressive media blitz. Print ads and TV commercials demonstrate emphatically just how tough these baits really are. ElaZtech baits have been blasted with a shotgun, stabbed with steak knives, and chomped by barracuda. Despite that deliberate abuse, ElaZtech baits not only remain fishable but with their realistic appearance, they consistently outfish ordinary soft plastics by a wide margin. ElaZtech baits boast one of the highest Fish Per Bait ratings in the industry, and they are Non Toxic. ElaZtech contains no PVC, Plastisol or Pthalates.
As you look through our store, you’ll be amazed by the extensive selection of Z-Man baits. There are body styles, colors and varying lengths to satisfy the most demanding fresh or saltwater angler.

No lure in recent memory has had such a profound impact on freshwater fishing as The Original ChatterBait®. With its patent-pending design and unique hex-shaped ChatterBlade®, the sound, vibration, flash, and action of The Original ChatterBait® is unmatched. The Original ChatterBait® is designed to “swim” in an erratic motion that mimics wounded prey. It offers the action of a crankbait, the profile of a jig, and the flash of a spinnerbait.

Z-Man’s proprietary ElaZtech® is a remarkable substance that is soft and pliable yet as much as 10X Tougher than other soft plastic baits. The natural buoyancy and lifelike action of this revolutionary makes it ideal for soft baits. ElaZtech® is extremely durable and resists nicks, cuts and tears better than other plastics. Unlike many other plastic baits on the market today, ElaZtech® baits are non-toxic and contain no PVC, phthalates, or plastisol.

The molded collar of the Z-Man EZ Skirt allows you to give your baits a new look or replace a worn skirt in seconds. On the retrieve, these skirts billow in-and-out in a lifelike, pulsating motion with an ever-changing shape that attracts fish from afar. Every EZ Skirt is designed so that each silicone strand is properly positioned to avoid tangles and bunching.

Z-Man FlashBack™ baits feature a premium holographic film embedded in a translucent soft lure body, creating a highly reflective and realistic appearance in the water. The result is a reflective flash that is one of nature’s most powerful strike triggers.

The brilliant Z-Man SilaFlash® skirt material combines a highly reflective holographic foil laminated to a soft, flexible silicone. In the water, SilaFlash catches and reflects light to create a radiant, pulsing flash that is highly visible to fish and anglers alike.

Sof-TeaZ trolling baits are molded from proprietary Z-Man ElaZtech plastic, so not only are they extremely soft and lifelike, but they are also incredibly tough and durable. Add buoyancy and the real-feel of natural bait to the picture, and you’ve got a bait that fish will biteand won’t let go!

Jason Leblanc and Kory Matherne did as they have done 2 other times this year on the 2009 Hooters HT Professional Redfish Series, finish on top at tournaments’ end.
Just .02 behind the leaders on day 1, LeBlanc and Matherne were definately within striking distance and strike they did. Bringing in day 2’s heaviest limit, 15.62 allowed this team to win the finale as well as cement their Angler of the Year awards.
Finishing 2nd was Jeremy Guilbeau and Larry Hooper with a 2 day total of 30.90 pounds, just over a pound behind LeBlanc and Matherne’s 2 day total of 31.31.
The top 5 finished out with Blake and Sam Champion in 3rd place with 25.77, day 1’s leader, Rittig and Tipp finished in 4th place with 25.04 and Mike Lambert finished in 5th with 24.89 and did it alone.
It was a great weekend and the anglers that competed did so in fine fashion and were professional on every front.
A few side notes; Day 1 Tommy Shockley and Bucky Boone were detained just long enough to make it back to the weigh in a few minutes late and have their catch not count. However, Tommy was on hand to see his “perfect pincher” used time and time again to the angler’s delight.
Not to be outdone by Shockley and Boone, day 2 found Adam Albarado and Barbara Scopelitis finally catching 2 monsters during an HT event, only to have their cranking battery fail them resulting in being late to the weigh in and their 17+ pounds being released without counting. Added to their day 1 total, this could of vaulted this team into at least 3rd place if not second.
Ironically (or maybe not) it was Bucky Boone who immediately jumped in his boat to go rescue Barb and Adam during a tremendous rain storm, when they called in to say they were stranded. Barb and Adam wanted to send a special thanks to Bucky for coming out to get them going again so they could return to the launch.
It was great seeing all the anglers again and we look forward to next season already…

Press Release fro HT Series Venice, La.
|
What a great weekend to conclude the first full season of the HT Professional Redfish Series. The location was Venice, La., south Louisiana’s premier Redfish fishery. Anglers began showing up Wedesday to locate those fat south Louisiana Redfish in hopes of taking home either their first win of the season or joining Jason LeBlanc as a multiple winner. There was a great mix of new anglers fishing their first event in The Series and those returning for more of the competition, comoradory and competition. One angler fishing his first event with HT since 2007 was boater, Scott Ritter. Scott finished with 32.03 pounds on 4 fat Louisiana Redfish (over the 2 days), anchored by his mammoth 9.28 pounder which captured him the big fish on Saturday on his way to the win on Sunday. Scott told the crowd he was not catching a lot of fish, just 6 or 7 a day but they were all fat. Scott took home $2,350.00 by beating just 15 other boaters in this weekend’s competion. The winning weight was also enough to secure Scott a spot in the championship in October. Second place went to Gary Wilson who was nipping at the heels of Ritter with 31.50 pounds on his 4 fish. Just 53/100 separating first and second attest to the fact that there is plenty of good, fat Redfish in the waters these anglers were fishing in this weekend. Gary took home $1,050.00 for his finish on the boaters side. Third place and $700.00 went to the points champion, Jason LeBlanc who weighed in 31.03 pounds and captured the boater of the year award. Jason edged out L.A. Landry by the narrowest of margins. 4 events, 4 different locations, good weather, inclimate weather and 8 total days of competition, yet just 4 points separated Jason and L.A.. The fourth and final spot paid on the boater’s side went to Paul Dufrene who won $350.00 for finishing fourth in a field of 16 boaters. Paul weighed in 30.23 pounds. The non boater’s side was won by Bobby Abruscato who took home $900.00 by beating the 15 other non boaters in this event. The winning boater and non boater combined for over $3,000.00 with just 16 total boats competing. This weekend was a great way to conclude the regular season, now the tour and anglers look forward to the championship, October 10-11. A special thanks goes out to the anglers, staff and volunteers who made yet another event a memorable one. Chris Kennedy did a great job pitching in and helping as did other anglers as well as the staff at Venice Marina who went out of their way to welcome the tour to town. It was great having 2 anglers fishing with their wives, team Shockley and Albarado both fished their first event this season with their better halves as their non boaters while Mike Lambert fished with his son William. Mike tells us to plan on seeing him and William next season as fishing with his 11 year old son this weekend netted, in Mike’s words, “the most fun tournament weekend I have had thus far, this season”. That’s good stuff right there! It’s been a lot of fun meeting and getting to know the anglers, and their families this season and as we look forward to the championship next month we want to thank each and every one that has allowed HT to produce this tournament series for you this season. It has been a pleasure to serve you and we trust you feel it has been a good investment of your time and energy as well as your tournament dollars. Until the championship, good health and good fishing…and the 2010 season. |

Team Cedotal/Dufrene claims Division Championship after final regular-season Louisiana event of 2009
LIZELLA, Ga. (August 31, 2009) – David “Boola” Mills and Brent Ballay, both of Venice, La., weighed in a two-redfish limit totaling 16.59 pounds to win the 2009 IFA Redfish Tour event at Grand Isle, La., on August 29. To win the one-day event, which launched out of Bridgeside Marina, Mills and Ballay bested a field of other two-angler teams to win the final regular-season event in the Louisiana Division.
No strangers to catching redfish in Louisiana, the pair ran from Grand Isle to their hometown of Venice, stopping to fuel before running 30 miles further past the famed redfishing destination. Targeting small ponds in shallow water, the pair worked to locate quality slotfish – no easy task in a region known for lots of giant redfish. The team located its best fish early – a 9.17-pound red that won big-fish honors for the tournament – and worked the rest of the day to add another big slotfish to their catch.
“We caught maybe 50 today and could have caught 150,” Ballay said. “We were running small ponds, sight fishing for big slot fish. We’d see probably five fish to every one we cast to. The rest were either too big or too small.” With the win, the pair won a 2009 Ranger Banshee Extreme valued at more than $30,000. The boat is powered by a 60-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha outboard and is equipped with a Bob’s four-inch Ultra Light Jackplate, Power-Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird electronics, Blue Point Fabrication metal work and Loadmaster trailer. The second-place team of Jay Cedotal, of Deinnar, La., and Chad Dufrene, of Purvis, Miss., brought 16.40 pounds to the scales on Saturday, including a 8.54-pound kicker redfish. Also making the run to Venice, the pair boated approximately 35 redfish on Saturday, experiencing fishing conditions much different from their pre-tournament practice. “It was different out there from practice,” Dufrene said. “The water was higher and the fish just moved around on us.” Cedotal and Dufrene might not have found the fish they were after, but the team’s second-place finish gave the pair the IFA Redfish Tour’s Louisiana Division Team of the Year title. The pair edged out Grand Isle’s third-place finishers, Bruce Linheim and Fred Myers, for the highly contested title, qualifying to compete for the Cabela’s Overall Divisional Team of the Year Award at November’s IFA Redfish Tour Championship in Orange Beach, Ala. The third-place team of Lindheim and Myers, from Pensacola, Fla., and Panama City, Fla., respectively, weighed in a two-fish limit that tipped the scales at 16.25 pounds. Opting to run the river instead of making the run to Venice, the team boated approximately 17 fish on the day, spending most of its time wading through heavy concentrations of over-sized redfish. Along with its third-place finish, Lindheim and Myers also pocketed the $1,000 Ranger Cup Award as the highest-finishing Ranger Cup-qualified team in the tournament. Mills and Ballay took home a $1,500 prize for the Rapala Big Fish Award with their 9.17-pound kicker. Finishing in 50th place, the team of Tom Shockley and Jack Hains claimed the $100 SolarBat prize. The IFA Redfish Tour continues to draw redfish anglers from Texas to the Carolinas and beyond, offering two-angler teams the opportunity to compete in six different divisions, each offering a three-event regular season. With low entry fees for the one-day, regular-season tournaments allow anglers to fish close to home and minimize expenses, while still being a part of a premier inshore, catch-and-release redfish tournament organization. Teams fishing any three of the IFA’s 18 regular-season events are automatically qualified for a no-entry-fee championship event, pitting qualifiers from each of the six divisions for a combined $77,000 in payouts and prize packages, as well as a shot at the coveted Cabela’s Overall Divisional Team of the Year Award for the six regular-season division winners. Added this year as an incentive for the very active anglers capitalizing on the opportunities to fish close to home for big money and valuable prizes, teams fishing at least six tournaments in any combination of divisions are automatically eligible to compete for the IFA Redfish Tour “Ultra 6” award. The award consists of a $5,000 cash prize, presented to the highest-finishing eligible team at the IFA Redfish Tour championship tournament. This year, in addition to $47,000 in payouts per event (based on a 100-boat field), the first-place prize package for all 18 IFA Redfish Tour regular-season events has been increased. In 2009, every regular-season tournament winner is guaranteed – regardless of field size – a fully loaded 2009 Ranger Banshee Extreme. The entire first-place prize package is valued at $30,000. For more information on the IFA Redfish Tour, to become a member of the IFA or to become a part of the fastest-growing inshore fishing tournament series in the United States, go online to redfishtour.com. HT Redfish Series Results - Delacroix, La. 8/8/09 - 8/9/09
Weigh In Day 2: A nice Saturday turned into a nasty Sunday for the final day of competition for the anglers of the 2009 Hooters HT Professional Redfish Series. Fishing in Delacroix, La. this weekend, the anglers were finding huge redfish, the question is, could they get them to bite just 1 week after the ESPN Redfish Cup was in town.
The answer for some was no but for others, it was absolutely! Jason Leblanc brought in 2 fish on Sunday for a 16+ pound limit to take the win with a 2 day, 4 fish total weight of 32.13 pounds.
Jason took home $3,000.00 for first place and $400.00 for big fish on Saturday and $400.00 for big fish on Sunday for a grand total on just the pro/boaters side of $3,800.00. Jason paid just a $350.00 entry fee and only had to top 22 other pros for this top prize.
Second place was LA Landry with 30.24 pounds after 2 days and took home $1,250.00. Third was Barnie White who tied with 4th place pro, Sean Oconnell with identical 2 day totals of 29.05. The first tie breaker with HT is the biggest single fished weighed and Whited edged out Oconnell with a 7.68 to Sean’s 7.65.
White took home $800.00 for 3rd place while Oconnell took home $500.00 for 4th. The 5th place prize of $350.00 went to Paul Dufrene who weighed in 28.66. The final check (6) on the pros/boaters side went to Tony Grose for his 28.62 pounds netting him a check for $150.00.
The non boater winner was Kory Matherne who took home $1,175.00 by paying just a $150.00 entry fee and topping 22 other non boaters. Second place and $500.00 on the non boaters division went to Chris Kennedy while 3rd was captured by Steve White who took home $400.00. The non boaters checks finished out with Ryan Pruett in 4th winning $300.00, Lance Reynolds in 5th and taking home $150.00 and Sal Fontana netting $75.00 for his 6th place finish.
It was a great weekend, except for the weather, with 46 anglers in 23 boats competing for 14 checks. Next up for the Series is Venice, La. September 19-20. Headturners will be at the South Pass Empire Tarpon Rodeo this week and concluding this road trip with the RFRI folks at Myrtle Grove, Saturday Aug 22. Points Chase after this event, click here.
Weigh In Day 1: Jason LeBlanc weighed in 2 redfish for his first day lead of 15.53 pounds. On stage with Kory Matherne these two topped the field but by the slimmest of margins.
Second place is Britt Ordes with 15.26 pounds, just 27/100 behind LeBlanc. Third place is LA Landry who weighed in 15.01 pounds while Paul Dufrene weighed in 14.93 pounds for fourth.
The top 5 finishes out with Delta Marina owner, Darren Angelo weighing in 14.64 pounds. The big fish of the day was captured by LeBlanc with an 8.17 pounder. However, Ordes 7.93 pounder was just 25.5″ long, a full 1.5″ below the allowable 27″.
If I can catch a 26.75″ pound fish it should weigh 9 pounds or better, Ordes told the crowd watching the weigh in. Day two should prove to be a tight finish with a lot of anglers stating they are seeing plenty of fish, they just have to get them to bite.
When these Louisiana giants turn on, upper teen weights are well within reach. 17 even 18 pound 2 fish limits are not out of these pros’ reach. Anglers will launch again at safe light and will weigh in between 2:30 and 4:00 pm. JL flooring provided a great jambalaya for the anglers after the weigh in and Captain Chris Calloway was a real trooper bumping fish while suffering from double ear infections that had him at the doctors as late as last Wednesday. We appreciate what each of these 2, JL flooring and Chris did for the anglers of the trail today.
Launch: Day 1 finds 46 anglers launching at Breton Sound Marina. The anglers enjoyed a cool morning after a good rain but feel certain while the coolness will wear off, forecast have the rain sticking around.
A great facility to stay in is one of ESPN Redfish Cup angler, Charlie Thomason’s camps. These beautiful, spacious homes away from home are a great place to kick back after a big day on the water.
The HT Series tournament truck had a first yesterday as it boarded the Belle Chase ferry to cross the mighty Mississippi. Just moments after loading the truck on the ferry I was summoned to the wheel house.
The captain wants to see you, a deck hand told me. I thought, what did I do, I just parked where they told me to. As I climbed the stairs and entered the wheel house I could not figure out what I could of done. Hey Pat was belted out by the Captain, I immediately felt better.
It was Captain Dave a friend from Lafitte, La. who recognized the truck and allowed me to enjoy the view from the driver’s seat. A short trip across the river and the HT truck was back on the road and on it’s way to what may literally be the end of the world.
Anglers will weigh in day 1 at Breton Sound at 4:00 pm, immediately following the weigh in JL flooring will be providing the white beans, chicken jumbalaya and other fixings they are known for.
