Ashford Trip: 7/17 — 7/18/08

Filed under: Fish reports and trips — admin0 @ 8:45 am

Perfect weather, minus the temperature, and good company was the order for the weekend. We were joined by Dr. Rowell Ashford II, his father Dr. Rowell Ashford, Uncle Bo, and family friend Raymond. The Ashford gang, looking for their first redfish, could not have picked a better time to come down to the Louisiana marsh.

Conditions were primed. We had Temperatures in the 90’s, an East wind at 5 to 10 knots, with high tides in the morning and low tides in the late afternoon. This set up for good water movement and clean water conditions allowing for excellent site fishing opportunities. And the fish did not disappoint!! For two days we saw, casted to, and caught good reds in the 19″ to 27″  range. Rowell II even managed a monster in shallow water, a 15 pound red that gave him all he wanted. Reds were caught predominantly on spinnerbaits, with a few coming on topwater and spoons.

Good trout were also found on the beaches to the southwest in the mornings on the incoming tides. The guys put some nice 2 to 3 pound trout in the box which should be good at the dinner table as well. Trout were caught on topwater, and Berkley rattlin shrimp under a popping cork.

For Capt. Ramsay and myself, we could not have asked for a better group of guys to have in camp and on our boats. The fishing was unbelievable and the fellowship even better.
