What a great weekend to conclude the first full season of the HT Professional Redfish Series. The location was Venice, La., south Louisiana’s premier Redfish fishery. Anglers began showing up Wedesday to locate those fat south Louisiana Redfish in hopes of taking home either their first win of the season or joining Jason LeBlanc as a multiple winner. There was a great mix of new anglers fishing their first event in The Series and those returning for more of the competition, comoradory and competition. One angler fishing his first event with HT since 2007 was boater, Scott Ritter. Scott finished with 32.03 pounds on 4 fat Louisiana Redfish (over the 2 days), anchored by his mammoth 9.28 pounder which captured him the big fish on Saturday on his way to the win on Sunday. Scott told the crowd he was not catching a lot of fish, just 6 or 7 a day but they were all fat. Scott took home $2,350.00 by beating just 15 other boaters in this weekend’s competion. The winning weight was also enough to secure Scott a spot in the championship in October. Second place went to Gary Wilson who was nipping at the heels of Ritter with 31.50 pounds on his 4 fish. Just 53/100 separating first and second attest to the fact that there is plenty of good, fat Redfish in the waters these anglers were fishing in this weekend. Gary took home $1,050.00 for his finish on the boaters side. Third place and $700.00 went to the points champion, Jason LeBlanc who weighed in 31.03 pounds and captured the boater of the year award. Jason edged out L.A. Landry by the narrowest of margins. 4 events, 4 different locations, good weather, inclimate weather and 8 total days of competition, yet just 4 points separated Jason and L.A.. The fourth and final spot paid on the boater’s side went to Paul Dufrene who won $350.00 for finishing fourth in a field of 16 boaters. Paul weighed in 30.23 pounds. The non boater’s side was won by Bobby Abruscato who took home $900.00 by beating the 15 other non boaters in this event. The winning boater and non boater combined for over $3,000.00 with just 16 total boats competing. This weekend was a great way to conclude the regular season, now the tour and anglers look forward to the championship, October 10-11. A special thanks goes out to the anglers, staff and volunteers who made yet another event a memorable one. Chris Kennedy did a great job pitching in and helping as did other anglers as well as the staff at Venice Marina who went out of their way to welcome the tour to town. It was great having 2 anglers fishing with their wives, team Shockley and Albarado both fished their first event this season with their better halves as their non boaters while Mike Lambert fished with his son William. Mike tells us to plan on seeing him and William next season as fishing with his 11 year old son this weekend netted, in Mike’s words, “the most fun tournament weekend I have had thus far, this season”. That’s good stuff right there! It’s been a lot of fun meeting and getting to know the anglers, and their families this season and as we look forward to the championship next month we want to thank each and every one that has allowed HT to produce this tournament series for you this season. It has been a pleasure to serve you and we trust you feel it has been a good investment of your time and energy as well as your tournament dollars. Until the championship, good health and good fishing…and the 2010 season. |
