Jason Leblanc and Kory Matherne did as they have done 2 other times this year on the 2009 Hooters HT Professional Redfish Series, finish on top at tournaments’ end.
Just .02 behind the leaders on day 1, LeBlanc and Matherne were definately within striking distance and strike they did. Bringing in day 2’s heaviest limit, 15.62 allowed this team to win the finale as well as cement their Angler of the Year awards.
Finishing 2nd was Jeremy Guilbeau and Larry Hooper with a 2 day total of 30.90 pounds, just over a pound behind LeBlanc and Matherne’s 2 day total of 31.31.
The top 5 finished out with Blake and Sam Champion in 3rd place with 25.77, day 1’s leader, Rittig and Tipp finished in 4th place with 25.04 and Mike Lambert finished in 5th with 24.89 and did it alone.
It was a great weekend and the anglers that competed did so in fine fashion and were professional on every front.
A few side notes; Day 1 Tommy Shockley and Bucky Boone were detained just long enough to make it back to the weigh in a few minutes late and have their catch not count. However, Tommy was on hand to see his “perfect pincher” used time and time again to the angler’s delight.
Not to be outdone by Shockley and Boone, day 2 found Adam Albarado and Barbara Scopelitis finally catching 2 monsters during an HT event, only to have their cranking battery fail them resulting in being late to the weigh in and their 17+ pounds being released without counting. Added to their day 1 total, this could of vaulted this team into at least 3rd place if not second.
Ironically (or maybe not) it was Bucky Boone who immediately jumped in his boat to go rescue Barb and Adam during a tremendous rain storm, when they called in to say they were stranded. Barb and Adam wanted to send a special thanks to Bucky for coming out to get them going again so they could return to the launch.
It was great seeing all the anglers again and we look forward to next season already…
